Something of the Thread: Another CMI guitar

September 5th, 2010 by Haggis | No comments

After this amazing guitar painted by forum member May, there’s now another one. New member Nogert makes a grand entry showing off his own hand-painted Monkey Island themed guitar. And not only that, but he shows he has musical talents as well, in a video with him playing a cool rendition of the Monkey Island theme.

Go to the forums for more awesome stuff like this, and if you have something amazing to share with us (like your own version of the Sistine Chapel with Monkey Island characters or Mêlée Island recreated with matchsticks), the World of Monkey Island forums are the place to do so!

Something of the Thread: Special editions and special characters

August 29th, 2010 by Haggis | No comments

With the recent special editions of the first two Monkey Island games, the Internet is rife with speculation. For instance, people are currently hoping for a special edition of Grim Fandango, and rightly so. Our own haydenwce27 is also wondering about special editions of The Curse of Monkey Island and Escape from Monkey Island, and you can wonder with him on the forums. Or if you prefer an entirely new Monkey Island game, you can shine your light on returning characters. Let’s hope LucasArts takes notice!

Horizons: Don Quixote

August 28th, 2010 by Haggis | 1 lonely comment

What’s this? You’ve got highbrow culture in my video game fan blog! Yes, I know, and yes, it’s on purpose. This is the first in a hopefully unending series of columns called Horizons, in which we explore other media that could be of interest to Monkey Island fans, for all sorts of reasons. For the first one, we’ll look at some recommended reading: the story of Don Quixote de la Mancha (and let’s not forget Sancho Panza).

Weekly Wiki: Palace of Prostheses

August 24th, 2010 by Haggis | No comments

The life of a pirate isn’t always easy, and limbs can be lost in the blink of an eye (if said eye is still intact, that is). So it’s a good thing that people like Deadeye Dave offer a wide range of products to replace lost body parts. The Palace of Prostheses on Lucre Island is the place to be if you’re short on hands, feet, or even internal organs. The shop even has a state-of-the-art filing system, but unfortunately that’s been out of order ever since Pongo the monkey disappeared.

Something of the Thread: Puzzle Agent

August 22nd, 2010 by Haggis | No comments

It’s been a bit of a quiet week on the forums, but our sophisticated community has once again shown its appreciation of works of art that don’t just involve Monkey Island. Here’s a thread about Puzzle Agent, a game by Telltale featuring Graham Annable’s art. It’s highly recommended! While you play it (in case you haven’t yet), you can think of some new threads to post on the forums, and maybe yours will be featured here next week!

Something of the Thread: DeathSpank & movie art

August 15th, 2010 by Haggis | 2 comments

This time we’re deviating a bit, with two threads that aren’t about the Monkey Island games, but are connected to them in some way.

  • The first is a thread about Ron Gilbert’s DeathSpank. If you’ve played it, share your thoughts. Or you can just lament the lack of a PC version.
  • And then there is a request for help from haydenwce27. He’s wondering if anyone has saved Tony Stacchi’s concept art for the Monkey Island movie, since his site has gone down. If anyone does have this art, please step forward! This is an important part of Monkey Island history, and should not be lost to oblivion.

See you next time, and keep posting!

The Monkey Island theme on a unicycle, with bagpipes

August 1st, 2010 by Haggis | 2 comments

This is probably the most awesome thing you’re going to see in a while (at least until the next Kauff episode). A while ago, ‘squiddkidd’ asked on the Mojo forums to vote for his entry in a contest, which consisted of him playing Star Wars music on a unicycle, with bagpipes. He promised that if he would win, he’d do the Monkey Island theme next. Unfortunately, he came in second… but fortunately for us, he still followed through! So, without further ado: the Monkey Island theme, on a unicycle, with a trumpet and bagpipes, brought to you by squiddkidd.
