When I first heard that the next Monkey Island game would be released in five segments approximately a month apart I was a bit skeptic. I liked the idea of a huge Monkey Island game at once and I feared the overall game would suffer in story, puzzles, and atmosphere by being divided in chunks.

To my delight my fears were quickly put to shame. The game is nothing short of what a Monkey Island fan could want and the story feels fresh and takes the game in a new direction and the fact that we get a new chapter each month makes the excitement last much longer.

However, where the first four chapters kept getting better and better, this one takes a step backwards and doesn’t quite live up to the high standards set by the previous installments.

Review: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood

That title alone is a bit intimidating. It sounds like it might be a title of a book written by some famous 19th-century Russian novelist, about the grand things in life. Love, death, betrayal, character. And hey, actually, the title is well-chosen, because those are the ingredients of this roller coaster ride that is the 4th chapter of Tales of Monkey Island.

Review: Lair of the Leviathan

September 28th, 2009 by SilverWolfPet | 25 comments

Monkeys! Fighting! Yeahhh!

Here it is, the third episode of Tales of Monkey Island, the middle of the season and, by far, the greatest episode yet. It is hard to be objective about it when your stomach hurts from all that laughter and you still hum in-game themes as you realise that it is 9 PM and you haven’t eaten anything yet nor visit the bathroom. If one could use these standards to measure the quality of Telltale’s ToMI: Lair of the Leviathan, then the game would probably hit a top score, with a near hospitalisation bonus. Read on to find out if it did, by normal standards.

Review: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal

review

A little over a month ago the entire Monkey Island community was suddenly awakened from its slumbering state with the announcement of Telltale’s ‘Tales of Monkey Island‘ and the first chapter being only five weeks away from release. For quite some time many Monkey fans hoped Telltale would acquire the rights and develop the next installment of their beloved franchise, but few thought they’d live to see it ever happen.

Well, it did and today we see the release of chapter one, ‘Launch of the Screaming Narwhal’. Four more chapters will follow on a monthly basis. With mighty big pirate boots to fill, the big question of course is: how did Telltale do?
Well, no need to worry: they did excellent. Our beloved franchise is in good hands! On with the review!
