We like apples; Apple likes us

May 4th, 2010 by Haggis | No comments

In an alternate universe, there are billions of gamers slaving away at their computers, which all have a mysterious apple engraved on it. In our own universe, there are not nearly as many Mac gamers, but it’s still a hefty number.

As evidenced by the Apple Games site, they can also play Monkey Island games on their Apple computers, and since The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has recently been added to the plethora of Mac games already out there, Apple decided to celebrate it with this article. Of special note is the last section, ‘Of Doom and Rubber Chickens’, in which such quality web sites as The World of Monkey Island, the Monkey Island Wiki, and this blog are mentioned.

That alone merits a read of the article. And if you are in possession of a Mac that is equipped with an Intel processor, you owe it to yourself to get this game from Aspyr (as well as Tales of Monkey Island for the Mac).

MI2:LR ALTERNATE ENDING by Ron Gilbert??

April 1st, 2010 by SilverWolfPet | 9 comments

Yes, you read that title right! We’re still recovering after this fantastic news!

*breathe in* *breathe out* Whew, okay… check this out:  An unofficial source (EDIT: Apparently that page was removed just after we found out. Let’s hope we can keep it as long as possible) has posted two work-in-progress images of an alternate ending that LucasArts is preparing for Monkey Island 2: Special Edition. As you can clearly see from both images, Guybrush is holding a chest which may be the REAL treasure of Big Whoop.

The source reads “It is quite possible that Ron Gilbert has finally decided to end the Monkey Island series as he wanted, revealing the true secret. This will stir up various reactions from the fanbase, as most of us actually expected the real Monkey Island 3″.

You can check out the images below by clicking “read the rest”. The cave could explain why the designers chose to draw tree roots in the HD version instead of metal bars. Apparently we will be able to finish LeChuck’s Revenge in both the original and the Special Edition mode! Sweet Zombie Monkeys!

December 30th, 2009 by SilverWolfPet | 2 comments

Kauff wishes you a Happy New Year

Kauff was supposed to wish you a Merry X-Mas too, but he ran a bit late for that… so, on behalf of all the monkeys here at Talesofmi.net, we wish you a Happy New Year!, although it’s difficult to imagine an even happier year after we just lived through the latest Monkey Island games. I mean, c’mon! We got a remake AND a sequel at the same time?! What more surprises could there be in store for us in 2010? We’ll just have to wait and see!

Big hugs to all our fans!

This contest has ended.

Want to win a ‘Tales of Monkey Island’ poster signed by Steve Purcell? Here’s your chance! If you have played chapter 3, Lair of the Leviathan, of ‘Tales of Monkey Island‘ you have come across a photo of the lovely Sister Agnes. The men want her and the women want to be her. Her looks are unique yet we will try to replicate the visual wonder that is Sister Agnes with this contest. We invite you to dress up, put on your best Sister Agnes face, snap a photo of it, and send it to us at talesofmi@gmail.com.

When the contest has ended the staff here at talesofmi.net will choose the best photo and the winner will receive a ‘Tales of  Monkey Island‘ poster signed by Steve Purcell. The second and third place will each receive a full season of ‘Tales of Monkey Island‘! If you already bought the full season you can always give it to a friend so they too can experience how awesome Monkey Island is!

All these prizes are kindly donated by Telltale so remember to thank them in your next Oscar speech, when you’re on Oprah, as you call a friend on ‘Who Wants to be A Millionaire?’, in the comments, on their forums, or just send them a kind thought and buy their games :)

There are some rules (aren’t there always?):

2. Image must be in jpg, gif, or png format.
3. No editing is allowed. You cannot edit the image with Photoshop or any other photo editing software. However, cropping of the image is allowed.

After the winners are selected all entered photos will be available for all to see in a public gallery so the world can envy the creativity of the Monkey Island fans. Click here for the photo of Sister Agnes and don’t hurt yourself trying to do the crossed eyes, a great costume and details can put you in the winning chair as well :)

We look forwards to lots of graceful mugshots of Sister Agnes :)

Good luck!

Treasure Huntin’ with us and Telltale!

August 14th, 2009 by Dalixam | 10 comments

treasurehunt

Remember the Treasure Hunt feature Telltale launched? Now it’s time to find the next map and we have the honor of hiding it from you!  The map  piece is hidden somewhere on all sites of the WMI family, which includes this very blog, World of Monkey Island, and the Monkey Island wiki.

None of them are particular obvious, but I know us adventure fans like a good challenge so I’ve hidden them well, but you only need to find one of the maps, so if you can’t locate it one of the sites, try on one of the other sites.

The prize? I won’t tell you, but in the words of Telltale ‘It’s got fun content for the series‘. So start huntin’!

If you find the map and click it, don’t worry if you can’t see it on your treasure page right away. You might have to scroll to the right a few times with the little red arrow to see it. It will of course also be in the game when you fire up chapter 1 and start scouring the jungle of Flotsam Island.

Want some hints? Really? You disappoint me! Alright, here are some subtle hints where to find the map:

On this here blog you’ll find it with the source of much rejoicing.
On World of Monkey Island it hides below three pirates.
On the Monkey Island wiki it can be found in the place where you meet them all.

See, it’s almost too easy now. Good luck!

P.S. Even if you find the map on one of the sites, try finding them on the other sites as well for the fun of it and the feeling of achievement. Of course, there is also the added bonus of getting to show off to everyone else!
