I wish we could hear their thoughts on the rest of the Monkey Island games… don’t you?

CVG announced this and we’re passing on the cool news!

As you no doubt probably guessed, it’s a collection of all the Monkey Island HD Special Editions to date.

That includes Special Editions for The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s revenge. The collection will also feature never-before-seen bonus content from the LucasArts vault.

Included in the bonus content is environment and character concept art, remastered and re-recorded soundtracks for both games, plus storyboards and concept art from an Industrial Light & Magic exploration of a Monkey Island animated movie that was never released.

The Monkey Island Special Edition Collection will release on September 9 for PS3, 360 and PC in Europe.

If you own the Monkey Island 2 special edition on Steam, you’ll have noticed that it has been updated. The update fixes the bone song, which was horribly out of sync before. The intro sequence with the credits has returned as well, but only in the classic version of the game, meaning you’ll have to press F1 right at the start of the game to see it.

• Finally, forum member Hande created two threads about the special edition. In the first one, you can offer your opinion on what went wrong. Of course, we’re not negative Nellies, so you can also praise LucasArts for what they did right.

Bill Tiller, lead background artist on The Curse of Monkey Island, tweeted this on July 17th:

“No CMI SE for me. Not sure there will even be one. Bummed.”

Apparently, Bill knows that LucasArts is not interested in making a Special Edition for Monkey Island 3 and, honestly, who can blame them? The graphics are holding out fine, the voice acting is top notch and the game really doesn’t seem to need a face-lift. Sure, you still need ScummVM to play it, sure it doesn’t support 16:9 monitors… but it’s still okay.

Pure speculation: wouldn’t it be cool if someone could convince the heads of LA to concentrate their efforts into making a NEW Monkey Island game? What do you think? Post a comment, don’t be shy!

The special edition of the beloved second Monkey Island game has been out on a variety of platforms for a while now, so it’s about time we asked you the all-important question. (No, not where babies come from.) What reviewers think of the game is all well and good, but ultimately, only the opinion of Monkey Island fans truly matters. So, with that said… what did YOU think of the Monkey Island 2 Special Edition? Comment away!

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge has been out for a little over 24 hours for PC (via Steam), iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network. If you’re still not sure whether to buy it or not, check out some of the reviews that have already popped up.

LucasArts are currently offering a great deal: if you pre-order the Monkey Island 2 special edition from Steam, you’ll get the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island free, so you can give it away to a friend who hasn’t been able to experience the joys of Monkey Island yet! Or you could just keep it yourself, but you wouldn’t do that, now would you? No, of course not.

For those who want to see 13 minutes of gameplay footage, check this out! Also, you’ll hear Wally and a bit more of Largo. You will also see much of the concept art that was added as a bonus, so it’s pretty spoilery, and at the very beginning of the video you can hear more of the MI2 Theme. Enjoy!

LucasArts have released a pretty awesome CGI trailer, parodying those trailers that have much fancier graphics than the games they purportedly portray. If you watch it until the end, you’ll find out that we now also have an official release date for the special edition of Monkey 2: July 7, 2010.
