Ron, Dave, Tim introduce themselves

April 27th, 2010 by | No comments

One of the main attractions of the Monkey Island 2 Special Edition has got to be the commentary from the guys who designed the game in the first place. Now LucasArts have released a video that teases us in that respect, in which you can see Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman, and Tim Schafer introduce themselves to the eager player of games and listener to commentary tracks.

Gamespot gets old Monkey crew together

April 24th, 2010 by | 4 comments

Gamespot have dug up Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, and Craig Derrick, to quiz them about the upcoming special edition of the beloved second installment in the Monkey Island series. You can read the ensuing hi-jinx here, which contains the following jewel out of Schafer’s mouth:

No other game had spitting in their game, really. Maybe I’m just biased because I wired that part up. But I thought it was the best part of the game. Now that I’m thinking about it, “Spitting Contest” would make a great Natal game.

On Stranger Tides: the movie

September 12th, 2009 by | 6 comments

The title of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, slated for release in the summer of 2010, has been revealed: On Stranger Tides. Wait a minute, wait a minute! Where have we heard that before? Here. It’s also the title of a book by Tim Powers, cited by Ron Gilbert as an inspiration for Monkey Island. What could this all mean? Is the next Pirates film going to be based on the book? Will we see even more similarities with Monkey Island? Could it be that Disney now want a taste of the current Monkey Island success? Maybe not, but this is sure something to keep an eye on.

‘I would love to do another Monkey Island game’

September 9th, 2009 by | 6 comments

If you watch this video interview from Giant Bomb, you can hear Ron Gilbert, purveyor of all things Monkey Island, talk about his new game, DeathSpank. It will no doubt be very cool, but what’s most interesting to Monkey Island fans here, is the bit right at the end. You can hear Ron utter the words that grace the title of this blog post.

Another Monkey Island game with Ron Gilbert… hmmm…

Some news

September 7th, 2009 by | 2 comments

I have to apologize for the lack of news updates here, but I promise you, we’re working on some interesting original content. Still, that’s no reason to just stop blogging!

First of all, listen to the latest Idle Thumbs podcast, which is all about that guy, Ron Gilbert. He made something called Monkey Island or something like that? You know, that game about an island full of monkeys, I think. Never heard of it.

Also, here’s the Tales of Monkey Island box art, as painted by the one and only Steve Purcell. And if you were at PAX, you could have seen the awesome Monkey Island Museum of Things, where things like this were on show. And last but not least, Steve Purcell has been posting some concept art from the cancelled Monkey Island movie on his blog, so check that out as well.

Alright, now you’re up to date on Monkey Island news again! (Thanks to as well, from which some of this news was stolen borrowed.)
