Argentine journalist in epic grog fail

August 29th, 2009 by | 27 comments

We all love grog, right? That tasty drink based on rum, with some lemon juice, cinnamon, sugar, or whatever else you want to put in it. Of course, nobody in their right mind would drink the stuff you’d get when mixing up the Monkey Island recipe, as described by the important-looking pirates in The Secret of Monkey Island.

But a reporter from Argentina seems to think that’s exactly what young people do these days. During his ‘investigation’ on Facebook, he came across an especially shocking recipe for an alcoholic drink that young people in Argentina drink these days. Called ‘Grog XD’ (note the failure to recognize the smiley on the reporter’s part), it’s basically the Monkey Island grog mixture, with a few ingredients removed. The joke was lost on the ‘journalist’, as you can see:

Thanks to Matunga for sharing this with the world.

Treasure Huntin’ with us and Telltale!

August 14th, 2009 by | 12 comments

Remember the Treasure Hunt feature Telltale launched? Now it’s time to find the next map and we have the honor of hiding it from you!  The map  piece is hidden somewhere on all sites of the WMI family, which includes this very blog, World of Monkey Island, and the Monkey Island wiki.

None of them are particular obvious, but I know us adventure fans like a good challenge so I’ve hidden them well, but you only need to find one of the maps, so if you can’t locate it one of the sites, try on one of the other sites.

The prize? I won’t tell you, but in the words of Telltale ‘It’s got fun content for the series‘. So start huntin’!

If you find the map and click it, don’t worry if you can’t see it on your treasure page right away. You might have to scroll to the right a few times with the little red arrow to see it. It will of course also be in the game when you fire up chapter 1 and start scouring the jungle of Flotsam Island.

Want some hints? Really? You disappoint me! Alright, here are some subtle hints where to find the map:

On this here blog you’ll find it with the source of much rejoicing.
On World of Monkey Island it hides below three pirates.
On the Monkey Island wiki it can be found in the place where you meet them all.

See, it’s almost too easy now. Good luck!

P.S. Even if you find the map on one of the sites, try finding them on the other sites as well for the fun of it and the feeling of achievement. Of course, there is also the added bonus of getting to show off to everyone else!

You have no excuse not to buy Monkey Island games now

August 14th, 2009 by | 4 comments

If you’ve been holding off on buying the games that came out of the recent Monkey Island revival, stop doing that. With this code to buy the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island on Direct2Drive for 25% less than normal, you cheapskates have no excuse not to buy it now.

And with the news about Telltale partnering with Amazon to bring individual episodes of Tales of Monkey Island to you, dear gamer, you also don’t have the excuse that you don’t want to buy the whole season all at once. Oh, and while you’re there, you could also write a review if you like.

TTG Photoshop Contest over, our man wins

August 12th, 2009 by | 6 comments

The TTG forums hosted a Monkey Island Photoshop thread where a lot of brave and talented pirates tried out their skills in the unofficial contest. The best entries received awards (of which we don’t know anything yet, but surely TellTale has something good in their goodies bag).

As you will see, our talented painter/photoshoper/artist Haggis has won the “Dashing!” award! Let’s all congratulate him and insist on telling us what he got as a prize. Way to go, matey!
