Review: Lair of the Leviathan

September 28th, 2009 by | 25 comments

Monkeys! Fighting! Yeahhh!

Here it is, the third episode of Tales of Monkey Island, the middle of the season and, by far, the greatest episode yet. It is hard to be objective about it when your stomach hurts from all that laughter and you still hum in-game themes as you realise that it is 9 PM and you haven’t eaten anything yet nor visit the bathroom. If one could use these standards to measure the quality of Telltale’s ToMI: Lair of the Leviathan, then the game would probably hit a top score, with a near hospitalisation bonus. Read on to find out if it did, by normal standards.

New screenshots and an interview

September 26th, 2009 by | 3 comments

Telltale have just posted 3 new screenshots from the third chapter of Tales of Monkey Island, Lair of the Leviathan. The third one is especially interesting, as it features a familiar talking cranium/mandible combo…

Also of interest is this long interview, conducted by Adventure Classic Gaming with Sean Vanaman, who is a writer and designer with Telltale. The interview offers some interesting insights into adventure game design, and hints at future Tales of Monkey Island seasons. It’s well worth a read.

Awesome Monkey Island fans are awesome

September 20th, 2009 by | 5 comments

Hot on the heels of that piece of genius you can see in the previous newspost comes even more awesomeness, made by the Monkey Island community. First of all, there’s ParTime, who created this neat little thing. No need to go to Twitter anymore, because Guybrush will read Ron Gilbert’s tweets for you. And Ron Gilbert’s tweets are pretty much the only reason to go on Twitter.

And then there’s… there is… this. I cannot describe in words how awesome this is. Monkey Island. In 3D. In beautiful, gorgeous, eye-splattering 3D! If you want to know how Guy.brush the 3D wizard put it together, go here. Then watch the video. Or watch it first. Just watch it.

Buy a TMI poster signed by Steve Purcell

September 18th, 2009 by | 6 comments

Have an empty wall? Need something to cover up the bullet holes from last week’s party? Too lazy to paint your living room? Telltale has the solution! Steve Purcell has painted a cover for the forthcoming DVD  release of ‘Tales of Monkey Island’, but you can also buy a 21.75″ x 16″ poster of it and for a few extra pieces o´eight you can even get Steve Purcell to hand-sign it!

Poor Steve, I hope his hand doesn’t cramp up. Head over to the TTG store and purchase the regular poster for $14.95 or the signed one for $19.95. Shipping fees may apply and a note from Jake at TTG says “The poster is currently listed as “backordered,” because it has not yet arrived at the warehouse to ship out. It should start shipping next week. The signed posters will take another week or so longer, as Steve is still signing them.”

Hopes and Rumors for Chapter III

September 17th, 2009 by | 7 comments

What will happen? Hmmm...

“Lair of the Leviathan” is on it’s way and the fans are getting excited, sharing and discussing various theories regarding the latest of TellTale Games’ episodes. As certain as a ship with monkeys, Majus & Co. launched the third flashfilm from the “I wonder what happens…” series.

Featuring a new voice actress, Ines, animations by Majus, beautiful backgrounds by Martin, Suro‘s performance as Mr. Winslow and the result of three looong and rough recording sessions for my throat, this new clip is considered by many to be the best one yet but don’t take their word for granted, share your opinion about it and tell us what YOU think!

On the other hand, we have the release date for the third chapter of “Tales of Monkey Island”. The episode will be released on September 29th.

If my colleagues don’t mind, I wish to add that I am working on a surprise for Talk like a Pirate Day (September 19th), and it will be posted here first, on, just for you, our beloved fans. Yarrr!

History with Haggis: Mermaids

September 14th, 2009 by | 9 comments

As you may know, mermaids were deemed too fantastical to even appear in the credits of The Curse of Monkey Island. And yet, here we are with Tales of Monkey Island, where the second chapter is simply teeming with mermaid-like creatures. Bah, they don’t belong in pirate mythology at all!
