Horizons: Fashion in 1700

February 26th, 2011 by | No comments

Now why would we choose such a topic for “Horizons”?

No reason! Shut up and read!

Fashion in the period 1700–1750 in European and European-influenced countries is characterized by a widening silhouette for both men and women following the tall, narrow look of the 1680s and 90s. Wigs remained essential for men of substance, and were often white; natural hair was powdered to achieve the fashionable look.

Distinction was made in this period between full dress worn at Court and for formal occasions, and undress or everyday, daytime clothes. As the decades progressed, fewer and fewer occasions called for full dress which had all but disappeared by the end of the century.

What is C42?

February 23rd, 2011 by | 4 comments

An ancient cup of tea was discovered floating happily in the waters around the Caribbean. Engraved on the bottom were the markings: C42. No one has been able to decipher the meaning of these mysterious symbols and some scientists are rumored to have gone mad in the attempt. The brilliant minds of the staff of this blog have cracked the cup secret though and the true nature of the cup and the markings will be revealed right here on Thursday the 3rd of March. It will be the beginning of a grand adventure…

Something of the Thread: Tickle me Elmo

February 20th, 2011 by | No comments

There are several things you may want to discuss on the forums right now. For instance, what are your feelings on Double Fine working on a Sesame Street game? You can also share your thoughts on Lisa Foiles’ Monkey Island top 5, and you can talk about how you signed the Toonstruck 2 petition without needing a Facebook account!

Tales of Monkey Island Ep.2-5 on iPad by May

February 20th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

During a recent press event, Telltale Games confirmed plans to wrap up its Tales of Monkey Island series on the iPad. The first episode launched on Apple’s tablet in December, and the series will recommence with Episode 2’s release next month. Telltale’s SVP of marketing Steve Allison was hopeful that all five episodes would be available for iPad players by May, though, he confessed, “It all depends on the Apple process.”

If all goes according to plan, Tales of Monkey Island will be the first episodic Telltale series to be offered in full on an iOS device. “And it won’t be the last,” Allison assured.

Horizons: The Michael J, Fox Foundation

February 19th, 2011 by | No comments

With the release of the second episode of the Back to the Future game I thought we should take a look at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. As you may know, Michael J. Fox (who plays Marty McFly in the Back to the Future movies) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991. In 1998 he revealed his condition to the public and has since started The Michael J. Fox Foundation to help raise money to research a cure for Parkinson’s and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s today.

If you wish to help, you can join Team Fox which was founded in 2006 as a way for The Michael J. Fox Foundation to help people all over the world who are walking, running, baking, party planning, paddling, pedaling, and dancing to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research.

Please give this serious thought if you have a little extra money and want to help other people. You never know if someone you love, or even yourself, is affected by Parkinson’s one day. If you want to help, but don’t want to organize anything then you can go here and make a quick donation. Any amount, big or small, will help.

Confirmed: No ToMI 2

February 18th, 2011 by | 6 comments

The last three games TellTale announced are:

King’s Quest: Not a port of the original, this will be an entire reboot of the franchise. Expect more details at E3 in June.

Puzzle Agent 2: Last summer Puzzle Agent, a bizarre take on the Professor Layton formula, was released on PC and iOS platforms (it’ll make its way to the PlayStation Network this spring). The sequel, Puzzle Agent 2, is coming this summer to all the same platforms. It again stars Agent Tethers and takes place in the snowy Midwest.

More Hector: Badge of Carnage: The first episode of Hector, a mature, gritty point-and-click adventure, was released independently by developer Straandlooper on the iPhone last summer (IGN gave it an 8.5). Telltale is partnering with Straandlooper to first bring Episode 1 to iPad, PC, and Mac this spring. Two more Episodes will be released later this year.

I’m really sorry for this. But hey, maybe the puzzles will be better than those in BTTF, who knows?

Review: Back to the Future: Get Tannen!

February 18th, 2011 by | No comments

Episode 2 of the Back to the Future game has been released suddenly and it’s entitled ‘Get Tannen!’. The biggest complaint I had in my review of episode 1 was that it was too short and too easy, so I was interested to see if episode 2 would be better in these areas. Unfortunately, it isn’t. If anything, it’s actually worse. The episode feels shorter than the previous one and it’s also easier. I played through it in one sitting of around two hours. which is very quick when fans have been waiting two months for this episode. The first 30-45 minutes is one long cutscene where you occasionatly select a dialog option or click a few things, but it ultimately feels like you’re watching an animated movie instead of playing an adventure game. I love cutscenes, but this is too much.
