Weekly Wiki: Breathmaster

May 31st, 2011 by | 3 comments

If you’re a pirate with bad breath (maybe you don’t brush your teeth properly or you don’t even have a toothbrush) then you should make friends with the delightful shopkeeper on Mêlée Island as he sells these lovely mints named Breathmaster. They are grog-flavored and bears the slogan “For the pirate who cares about first impressions”. An entire roll sells for one single piece of eight and they come in handy when talking to wrongfully imprisoned guys named Otis. They also double nicely as mint leaves in voodoo recipes.

Viist the wiki page to learn what kind of mints feature in Tales of Monkey Island and what they can be used for.

So go ahead and listen to them again to jog your memory, then speak your mind in the forums. Meanwhile, SilverWolfPet has an update on the fan letter to LucasArts, which now has 32 contributions.

Horizons: Queen Anne’s Revenge

May 28th, 2011 by | No comments

Does that name ring a bell? That could be because the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the flagship of the pirate Edward Teach (better known as Blackbeard), plays a part in the new Pirates of the Caribbean film. Now archaeologists have recovered the ship’s anchor from the bottom of the sea, and it’s huge. That’s no surprise really, since the ship itself, boasting 40 guns, was uncommonly powerful, and contributed greatly to Blackbeard’s success. She was originally a French ship used to trade slaves, until Blackbeard captured it in 1717. He then turned the ship into a killing machine by increasing the number of guns from just 14 to 40. In 1718, the ship ran ashore in North Carolina, which was possibly a deliberate act in order to cut down on his pirate crew. The ship whose anchor has now been recovered, is believed to be the Queen Anne’s Revenge, a replica of which you can now see on the silver screen.

Weekly Wiki: Pirate Potables

May 24th, 2011 by | 9 comments

Have you taken the time to look through the recipe book Guybrush finds at the Goodsoup Hotel on Blood Island? Perhaps you’re not even sure of the book’s title. Well, it’s called Pirate Potables, and apart from the recipe for the hangover cure, which you need to complete the game, it contains several more recipes, mostly for cocktails. If you’re planning on trying to create the cocktails mentioned in the recipe book, be sure to stock up on Cilantro, since that’s an ingredient required in all the recipes, and it’s actually one of the more everyday ingredients. If you make one of these cocktails, do let us know! That is, if you survive consuming them.

Something of the Thread: Game of Thrones

May 22nd, 2011 by | No comments

Brush guy asks if any of you are watching the Game of Thrones television series. If you are, you’re only a few steps away from knowing the actors in it! Well, sort of anyway. That’s because some of CaptainNiamhy‘s friends are extras in it. Pretty cool, huh? And speaking of games, our forum games are still going strong. If you haven’t played yet, feel free to join in, it’s fun!

Horizons: Young Jack Sparrow

May 22nd, 2011 by | No comments

I know we talked about fan films in  another Horizons column, but you guys really need to see this. Wait wait! A short introduction:

There is this series of books called “The Adventures of Young Jack Sparrow”. I never read any of them but someone was inspired enough to put a lot of effort into making a very short clip… with a lot of potential!

If you ever heard of IndyMogul, then you know it is a group of young people who specialize in “training” the film amateurs into making their own props and equipment for cheap. Well, these guys just launched a tribute clip to the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and it is looking brilliant. The actors are good, the choreography is good, the music is original (but you will hear parts inspired from the POTC soundtrack)… what can I say? Nowadays everybody can make a good movie, if they really set their mind to it!

The clip’s title is connected to the books I mentioned earlier, not sure about the story though. Zan Alda, the actor playing Young Jack, is really nailing some of the facial expressions and gestures. I think he can only be topped by AJ Locascio, when it comes to lookalikes and acting. It’s short, it’s fun and it really made me want to see more.

Okay, enough teasing… here’s the clip! What do you think? I do recommend watching it in HD. It’s really worth it.

What about you awesome folks? Did you ever try to make a pirate movie? Or any movie at all? Share your experiences in the comments below and let us know!

Oh, speaking of pirates, I think I found the pirate from Sea For Two in a game-menu! Go here but don’t click on “play”, just wait a bit in the menu-part, and a little ship will appear with a very grumpy and hilarious pirate 😀 Reminds me of him!

Weekly Wiki: Blondebeard’s Chicken Shoppe

May 17th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

I’m really really hungry right now… so I figured I should write about food.

Blondebeard’s Chicken Shoppe (also known as Blondebeard’s Chicken) is a fried-chicken restaurant situated in Puerto Pollo on Plunder Island and managed by Captain Blondebeard himself. It also has a convenient outside walk-thru speaker, but no one can really make out what the speaker is saying. Known for its crispy fried golden nuggets and general unsanitary greasiness, the restaurant has a “delivery in thirty days or it’s free” policy. It’s impossible to eat inside the restaurant without a reservation. When Guybrush Threepwood visits the shoppe, however, most menu items are unavailable because the chickens have been set free from their coops; Blondebeard believes El Pollo Diablo is their liberator.

Visit the wiki page for info regarding menu and satisfied customers!

Actually… I think I can skip lunch today after glancing at that menu… urp!

Who would pull the other one’s hair? Who would spread lies and rumors to ruin the reputation of their opponent? Whose wit is sharper than their sword?

Polly: Fight - Carla vs. Morgan

  • Carla the Swordmaster (25%, 19 Votes)
  • Morgan LeFlay (75%, 58 Votes)
