Something of the Thread: Minecraft

May 15th, 2011 by | No comments

If you play Minecraft, be sure to visit this thread made by Brush guy – perhaps this is the start of a lively Monkey Island Minecraft community. I personally don’t play it, but if you do, you can perhaps convince people like me by writing about your fabulous experiences in the game! Also, HaydenWCE has another interesting question to ponder, in case you’re also wondering about what lurks in the shadows of the Monkey Island universe. Which inaccessible part in the Monkey Island universe would you want to unlock?

Horizons: The Tiny Bang Story

May 14th, 2011 by | 2 comments

What is ‘The Tiny Bang Story‘? It’s a relaxed and gentle puzzle game that can be quite frustrating at times. I stumbled on this game on Steam and tried the demo. I though it was fun and enjoyable and I wanted more so I ended up buying the full game although I felt the price was to high for this type of game. More on that later.

Weekly Wiki: The A-mfggh-C’s of Ventriloquism

May 10th, 2011 by | 2 comments

Fancy being a ventriloquist? Want to scare your friends by making your stomach talk? Feeling lonely? Then you should get your hands on a copy of The A-mfggh-C’s of Ventriloquism. Guybrush gets a hold of it in ‘The Curse of Monkey Island‘ and makes use of it to get himself a ship. Although that is the primary function of the book, you can use it on all characters on the island for a good laugh. Try that next time you find yourself playing CMI 🙂

Polly: Are you watching the return of Jack Sparrow?

May 9th, 2011 by | 4 comments

We’re less than two weeks away from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides‘ and I am very excited. I love these movies although I will admit that the story got more complicated than necessary with each movie in the original trilogy. but I will definitely be in the theater to see this one hopefully on opening weekend. How about you?

Polly: Are you watching the return of Jack Sparrow?

  • Yes, I will watch it in the theater! (67%, 42 Votes)
  • Yes, but I'll wait until it hits DVD/Blu-ray (19%, 12 Votes)
  • No, three movies were enough (10%, 6 Votes)
  • No, I hate pirates and Johnny Depp! (5%, 3 Votes)

Something of the Thread: Puzzles and looking ahead

May 8th, 2011 by | No comments

To prove that our forum isn’t just about games now, HaydenWCE has made another thread inquiring about your opinion on puzzles – specifically, which Monkey Island game do you think has the best puzzles? Also from his hand is a thread asking what you’re looking forward to in the next year or so. It could be fun to participate in it and then in a year look back to see what has become of those expectations.

Horizons: Long John Silver

May 7th, 2011 by | 3 comments

If you miss Paco’s old comic and are looking for something like it, Long John Silver may be for you. Originally a French comic (or as they say these days, “graphic novel”) series, the first two parts have been translated into English and released, with the third part on its way. It’s sort of a spin-off of Treasure Island, but with its own story, casting Long John Silver in the main role in a Pirates of the Caribbean-like adventure. I’ve read the first part, Lady Vivian Hastings, and I must say I was impressed, especially by the beautiful visuals. You should consider getting it just for that. You’ll probably want to read the other books in the series as well though, since the first volume cuts off rather abruptly. If you like pirates and comics, check it out!

Review: Back to the Future: Double Visions

May 4th, 2011 by | 5 comments

I think a good reviewer should be well informed and should have no emotional attachment (positive or negative) to the product or the people he is reviewing. I don’t know if I am a good reviewer but I do know that it hurts to say this: Episode 4 was not worth the wait.

I know what it means to work your butt off on a project, I know what it means to work with several leaders, each with his own decisions to make which undoubtedly will conflict with yours, I know what it means to take on multiple projects at the same time… fortunately I also know when to stop and focus on just one. To have a basis for this review, these words will not be repeated twice: the Telltale Games Team is a group of brilliant people which are admired and respected by many fans around the world. That being said, I have just played the worst episode yet.

Feel free to jump into the discussion and prove me wrong. I always admire a good debate! Here are my arguments/points… with a tint of spoilers. (nothing major, you’re safe) 🙂

Weekly Wiki: Buzzsaw Girl

May 3rd, 2011 by | 2 comments

Ah, Buzzsaw Girl. Who knows what she dreamt of being when she would grow up? A lawyer maybe, a stewardess, a police officer, or even a pirate captain? Her parents must have been so proud of her. And now, what has she done with those hopes and dreams? She threw them all away, and chose a career as a calendar girl, of all things. Now her picture is regularly touched by a perverted woodsmith in Woodtick. Way to go, Buzzsaw Girl…

Polly: Do you replay TMI?

May 2nd, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

We’re are going to finish our ‘Do you replay’ series of polls with Tales of Monkey Island. It might be a bit unfair to compare the results of this poll with the previous ones since TMI is only about two years old, so fans have not had as much time to replay it as the previous games, but we’ll do the poll anyway for fun 🙂 How many times have you played ‘Tales of Monkey Island‘? Only once? Twice? Once a year? Every Sunday? It’s okay if you can’t remember the exact number, just estimate. Feel free to elaborate in the comments!

Polly: How many times have you played TMI?

  • 1 time (44%, 31 Votes)
  • 2-3 times (39%, 27 Votes)
  • 4-6 times (10%, 7 Votes)
  • 7-10 times (3%, 2 Votes)
  • 11-20 times (3%, 2 Votes)
  • 20+ times (1%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 70

Something of the Thread: Games!

May 1st, 2011 by | No comments

You asked for it, and now it’s here: the games forum! If you just love forum games, especially if they’ve got a bit of a Monkey Island theme, you’ll love this. One of the games you can play is a particular favourite of mine already (and I’m not just saying that because I came up with it): The World of Monkey Island RPG. Feel free to join in and add to the story with your own character! But there are also other games to be played, and if you have a good idea for a new game, feel free to add it to the Forum Games section!
