Polly: Are you watching the return of Jack Sparrow?

May 9th, 2011 by | 4 comments

We’re less than two weeks away from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides‘ and I am very excited. I love these movies although I will admit that the story got more complicated than necessary with each movie in the original trilogy. but I will definitely be in the theater to see this one hopefully on opening weekend. How about you?

Probably not. The plot wrapped up nicely after the third movie, and another one just seems unnecessary. But who knows, it might be good.

The thing is, they’re not really bringing anything back from the dead (so to speak), because they seem to be going in a new direction. They’re leaving behind Will, Elizabeth, Davy Jones, Pintel, Ragetti, Beckett and Norrington, and they’re beginning with a brand new storyline, so they’re basically leaving the old series alone and are starting afresh. If they were to include all of these characters and try to resurrect the old storyline, then yes, it would seem unnecessary, but this time they’re only including Sparrow, Barbossa and Gibbs, and I think there’s an endless supply of situations to throw these three characters into, so why not make more movies?

Really looking foraward to this one.

I think it’s going to be excellent. =D

I’ll watch it, but won’t expect much from it. I loved the first movie. The second and third ones went downhill. Jack Sparrow didn’t seem remotely piratey, and the third film made little sense – pirate lords (that weren’t even used)… really?

But I like Johnny Depp, and Jack Sparrow is a fun character. I’m also curious as to how closely the film sticks to the book plot, and I won’t miss a pirate Penelope Cruz. 😛
