Weekly Wiki: The spitting Contest

August 23rd, 2011 by | No comments

When there are no new costumes to try on in the costume shop and no one needs a coffin the people of Booty Island like to participate in a spitting contest. The Spitmaster presides over the contest and the grand prize is a charming spit-marked plaque. Guybrush wants this and cheats to achieve the winning spit of course. If you’re good at hawking up a good and creamie loogi then you should stop by the spitting contest on Booty Island.

Weekly Wiki: The A-mfggh-C’s of Ventriloquism

May 10th, 2011 by | 2 comments

Fancy being a ventriloquist? Want to scare your friends by making your stomach talk? Feeling lonely? Then you should get your hands on a copy of The A-mfggh-C’s of Ventriloquism. Guybrush gets a hold of it in ‘The Curse of Monkey Island‘ and makes use of it to get himself a ship. Although that is the primary function of the book, you can use it on all characters on the island for a good laugh. Try that next time you find yourself playing CMI 🙂

Something of the Thread: What’s on your mind?

April 10th, 2011 by | No comments

After a week-long absence, Something of the Thread returns with a vengeance: HaydenWCE has created a thread that looks to become a sure hit: in the true spirit of the What’s on your mind? subforum, he encourages you to talk about whatever’s on your mind. Other interesting discussions are about April Fools Day and the eternal question that’s always on everybody’s mind: just how old is Guybrush?

Weekly Wiki: Aunt Tillie

March 29th, 2011 by | 7 comments

Aunt Tillie had the best of intentions when she went through the trouble of baking a carrot cake for her jailed nephew. She even hid a file in the cake so he could escape from prison. Alas, Otis did not like carrot cake and happily traded it away. Thus he rendered the efforts of his aunt useless and… well, not completely useless as Guybrush found a use for the file. If only Aunt Tillie had provided Otis with a little hint to look in the cake or, even better, she could just have given him the file when Fester Shinetop was not around.

Horizons: Mad Jack the Pirate

March 5th, 2011 by | No comments

This week’s Horizons comes courtesy of a tip from plunderbunny481. She writes about a cartoon called Mad Jack the Pirate, which is “like BlackAdder, Monty Python, and Monkey Island rolled into one”. You can find the entire series on YouTube (please don’t sue us, we’re just linking to it).

In unrelated news, Bill Tiller has uploaded some cool concept sketches from the design document for Curse of Monkey Island. If you look closely, you may even be able to read some of the text! Here’s a list of the images:

Weekly Wiki: Pirate Leaders

March 1st, 2011 by | No comments

Ah, the pirate leaders. Some would say they are good-for-nothing, grog-swilling ne’er-do-wells, but say what you will, without them, Guybrush might never have become a pirate. They mentored our favourite pirate wannabe all throughout his quest… from behind their comfortable table in the Scumm Bar. Fun fact: in the Special Edition of The Secret of Monkey Island, one of the pirate leaders was voiced by Denny Delk, who is of course famous for voicing Murray.

Guybrush in Guinness

February 17th, 2011 by | No comments

Guybrush Threepwood made the list of top 50 game characters of all of time on Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition website as he took spot #38. Apparently, this list is going to feature in the 2011 edition of the book. Who knew there was a Gamer’s Edition of Guinness Book of World Records? Well, I didn’t, until now 🙂

Weekly Wiki: Banana Picker

January 25th, 2011 by | 3 comments

Ah, the banana picker. It’s one of those things from The Secret of Monkey Island I remember as being pure genius. The big hands had me laughing out loud. Guybrush trades it to Herman Toothrot for the key to the Giant Monkey Head. It makes another appearance in Escape from Monkey Island. I imagine a real banana picker would make millions of dollars, so what are you waiting for? Invent a banana picker!
