Something of the Thread: Games!

May 1st, 2011 by | No comments

You asked for it, and now it’s here: the games forum! If you just love forum games, especially if they’ve got a bit of a Monkey Island theme, you’ll love this. One of the games you can play is a particular favourite of mine already (and I’m not just saying that because I came up with it): The World of Monkey Island RPG. Feel free to join in and add to the story with your own character! But there are also other games to be played, and if you have a good idea for a new game, feel free to add it to the Forum Games section!

Horizons: Monkey Island on YouTube

April 23rd, 2011 by | 3 comments

This week I thought we should take a look at some funny and amazing Monkey Island videos on YouTube. Yes, the tube has it all and we’re ready to dive headfirst into it. Join me after the break for a guy on a unicycle playing Monkey Island music on bagpipes, concerts, Grog XD, and much more all in the name of Monkey Island!

Something of the Thread: Something is afoot…

April 17th, 2011 by | 6 comments

HaydenWCE has spotted something interesting over at the official Monkey Island Facebook page. Craig Derrick is hinting that something may be about to happen, saying “Great things come to those that wait.” What could it be? While you’re pondering that question and waiting for great things to come, you can participate in this sea shanty game, or read the game script angeldeb82 created for Tales chapter 4 (or just do both). If you’re really creative, you can participate in the improvement meme. Dig up an old piece of Monkey Island fan art and draw it again, only better! This post’s header shows an example of such an improved drawing, by guimero64.

Horizons: Nightlight Productions

March 12th, 2011 by | No comments

Nightlight Productions has returned after a long hiatus. Old content is promised to be back online the next month or so and at least one new radio play will be released every month. In case you don’t know Nightlight makes radio plays based on games like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. The stories are 0riginal, but takes place in the world of the game and possibly features some of the original characters. Check out plays like ‘The Power of Monkey Island‘, ‘Tierra de los Muertos‘, and ‘Lost Cause‘. You can also visit their Facebook page and a repopulated iTunes feed is promised soon. The plays are really well produced and very enjoyable to listen to. Check them out!

Polly: Who should make the next MI game?

March 7th, 2011 by | 6 comments

35% have played CMI 4-6 times while 13% have played it more than 20 times!

The chance for a new MI game anytime soon is looking a little grim right now as Telltale did not announce another season of TMI and they seem to have enough to work on for 2-3 years. LucasArts abandoned adventure games long ago and while Darrell Rodriguez got some things moving, like a special edition of MI1 & MI2 and some classic adventures available on Steam, his departure from LucasArts has once again left the company to ignoring adventure games. Let’s put all that aside though for this week’s poll as we ask you who you would like to make the next Monkey Island game if it were up to you.

Polly: Who should make the next MI game?

  • LucasArts (27%, 29 Votes)
  • Telltale (55%, 59 Votes)
  • Double Fine (11%, 12 Votes)
  • Autumn Moon (2%, 2 Votes)
  • Someone else (1%, 1 Votes)
  • No one. Let Monkey Island rest. (4%, 4 Votes)

Total Voters: 107

Something of the Thread: Dear LucasArts…

March 6th, 2011 by | No comments

This week in Something of the Thread, I want to draw your attention to a letter to LucasArts that you can help write, asking them to make a new Monkey Island game, or to hand the rights to Telltale. The action started on the Telltale forums, and has now spread to our forums, thanks to SilverWolfPet. Additionally, angeldeb82 has made a game script for the first Tales chapter, and you can talk about the best bits in Escape from Monkey Island, or about the Monkey Island universe as a whole.

Horizons: Mad Jack the Pirate

March 5th, 2011 by | No comments

This week’s Horizons comes courtesy of a tip from plunderbunny481. She writes about a cartoon called Mad Jack the Pirate, which is “like BlackAdder, Monty Python, and Monkey Island rolled into one”. You can find the entire series on YouTube (please don’t sue us, we’re just linking to it).

In unrelated news, Bill Tiller has uploaded some cool concept sketches from the design document for Curse of Monkey Island. If you look closely, you may even be able to read some of the text! Here’s a list of the images:

Top 5 Best Moments: Monkey Island

February 17th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

Lisa Foiles from ‘the escapist‘ has a video of her top 5 moments in Monkey Island 1 & 2. I can’t say I agree with all of her choices, but the video is pretty funny and it’s an entertaining watch. I am especially interested in Joel’s take on insult sword fighting.
