Something of the Thread: Statistics

July 31st, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

Since there isn’t all that much forum activity at the moment (possibly because of the summer), I figured I’d do things a little differently this time and post some statistics instead. At the time of writing this post, the forums contain 66,903 posts in 5,715 topics. There are 4,191 users registered (although only a handful regularly post). On average, every day 18.09 new posts are made, and 1.55 new topics are created daily. Also, every day 1.13 new users sign up. The .13 is probably someone with only a head, like Murray. There, now you can impress your friends with these statistics! Or perhaps not, but it’s still pretty cool.

Something of the Thread: Something to watch

July 17th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

In today’s ‘SotT’, HaydenWCE points us to a cool video that has Tim Schafer pitching his new game to Cookie Monster (which you may have already seen, but it’s still hilarious). You can also watch a work-in-progress video on the current state of TheGreatBooster‘s Monkey Island radio drama. And finally, the repackaged special editions of the first two Monkey Island games are something to watch out for. Are you looking forward to this enticing package like the Man of Low Moral Fibre is?

Something of the Thread: Floppies

July 3rd, 2011 by | No comments

Ewan JF has a question for all of you, and a definitive answer has not been given yet: How many floppies does The Secret of Monkey Island have? If any of you know the answer (no, this is not a quiz), please make your way to the forums and help out a fellow Monkey Island fan!

Something of the Thread: Blast from the past

June 19th, 2011 by | No comments

Here’s something fun for you to do on a rainy afternoon: read through the posts in the Future Monkey Island games forum. It’s pretty cool to read through all those speculations we had before we could even hope Tales of Monkey Island would ever be made. Especially interesting are the posts about the form LeChuck would take in the fifth Monkey Island game. In September 2003, forum memberĀ Le Chuck had the idea that perhaps LeChuck would return in his human form. LeChucksRevenge wrote something similar in 2004, also hinting at LeChuck perhaps becoming more attractive and powerful to Elaine than Guybrush is. The same idea is propagated in November 2003 by Media_Circus, in a prediction that turned out to be almost spot on: “I think it would make a great plot twist that LeChuck manages to revert back to his human self and steals (temporarily) Elaine’s heart.” So sometimes Monkey Island fans are a pretty visionary bunch!

Something of the Thread: Puzzles and looking ahead

May 8th, 2011 by | No comments

To prove that our forum isn’t just about games now, HaydenWCE has made another thread inquiring about your opinion on puzzles – specifically, which Monkey Island game do you think has the best puzzles? Also from his hand is a thread asking what you’re looking forward to in the next year or so. It could be fun to participate in it and then in a year look back to see what has become of those expectations.

Something of the Thread: Games!

May 1st, 2011 by | No comments

You asked for it, and now it’s here: the games forum! If you just love forum games, especially if they’ve got a bit of a Monkey Island theme, you’ll love this. One of the games you can play is a particular favourite of mine already (and I’m not just saying that because I came up with it): The World of Monkey Island RPG. Feel free to join in and add to the story with your own character! But there are also other games to be played, and if you have a good idea for a new game, feel free to add it to the Forum Games section!

Something of the Thread: What do you want?

April 24th, 2011 by | 5 comments

This week, we’re going to do things a little differently. Instead of showcasing forum threads, it’s your turn to come up with suggestions, right here in the comments (or in the Forum Feedback section of the forums, of course). Do you have a fantastic idea that would make the forums even more fun? A new forum section, a thread idea, a feature suggestion… you name it. If it’s a good idea that can actually be implemented (at this time requests for a built-in time machine and cupcake dispenser cannot be honoured), you could see it being used in the forums, so let’s hear it!

Something of the Thread: What’s on your mind?

April 10th, 2011 by | No comments

After a week-long absence, Something of the Thread returns with a vengeance: HaydenWCE has created a thread that looks to become a sure hit: in the true spirit of the What’s on your mind? subforum, he encourages you to talk about whatever’s on your mind. Other interesting discussions are about April Fools Day and the eternal question that’s always on everybody’s mind: just how old is Guybrush?

Something of the Thread: IWWH before Tales of Monkey Island?

March 27th, 2011 by | No comments

If you wondered about what happened between Escape and Tales too, this is the thread for you. Feel free to speculate to your heart’s content! Also, please welcome back CanadianWinter and the other lost sheep who have found their way back to the forums!
