We’re taking a break

November 1st, 2011 by | 11 comments

Hello loyal readers. The staff behind this blog (Haggis, SilverWolfPet, and myself) have decided to take a break and put the blog on hiatus. There isn’t much Monkey Island news these days and while we tried to keep the blog alive with different reviews and articles reaching beyond Monkey Island we found out that that is not where our passion lies. We might resurrect this blog if a sequel to ‘Tales of Monkey Island‘ is announced or Ron Gilbert gets the opportunity to make his version of Monkey Island 3. Until then, we hope you enjoyed the blog and take care 🙂

Sincerely,

Haggis, SilverWolfPet, & Dalixam

Weekly Wiki: Jungle Beast

September 1st, 2011 by | No comments

The Jungle Beast of Flotsam Island lives deep within the jungles and is never seen. Only Hemlock McGee seems to believe in it, and his depiction of it hangs in Club 41. He tells the story of how meaty sacrifices are left on the altar in the jungle at night and disappear before the morning, with a foul stench left behind.

Guybrush Threepwood can track the monster by dousing his offering in sugar water, leaving a trail of fireflies for him to follow. The beast turns out to be a meat-eating plant. Guybrush can retrieve a lion’s paw from its mouth; it retains the beast’s terrible smell and is an ingredient in the “Feast for the Senses” used to embiggen La Esponja Grande.

Something of the Thread: Blast from the past

June 19th, 2011 by | No comments

Here’s something fun for you to do on a rainy afternoon: read through the posts in the Future Monkey Island games forum. It’s pretty cool to read through all those speculations we had before we could even hope Tales of Monkey Island would ever be made. Especially interesting are the posts about the form LeChuck would take in the fifth Monkey Island game. In September 2003, forum member Le Chuck had the idea that perhaps LeChuck would return in his human form. LeChucksRevenge wrote something similar in 2004, also hinting at LeChuck perhaps becoming more attractive and powerful to Elaine than Guybrush is. The same idea is propagated in November 2003 by Media_Circus, in a prediction that turned out to be almost spot on: “I think it would make a great plot twist that LeChuck manages to revert back to his human self and steals (temporarily) Elaine’s heart.” So sometimes Monkey Island fans are a pretty visionary bunch!

Weekly Wiki: Breathmaster

May 31st, 2011 by | 3 comments

If you’re a pirate with bad breath (maybe you don’t brush your teeth properly or you don’t even have a toothbrush) then you should make friends with the delightful shopkeeper on Mêlée Island as he sells these lovely mints named Breathmaster. They are grog-flavored and bears the slogan “For the pirate who cares about first impressions”. An entire roll sells for one single piece of eight and they come in handy when talking to wrongfully imprisoned guys named Otis. They also double nicely as mint leaves in voodoo recipes.

Viist the wiki page to learn what kind of mints feature in Tales of Monkey Island and what they can be used for.

Polly: Do you replay TMI?

May 2nd, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

We’re are going to finish our ‘Do you replay’ series of polls with Tales of Monkey Island. It might be a bit unfair to compare the results of this poll with the previous ones since TMI is only about two years old, so fans have not had as much time to replay it as the previous games, but we’ll do the poll anyway for fun 🙂 How many times have you played ‘Tales of Monkey Island‘? Only once? Twice? Once a year? Every Sunday? It’s okay if you can’t remember the exact number, just estimate. Feel free to elaborate in the comments!

Polly: How many times have you played TMI?

  • 1 time (44%, 31 Votes)
  • 2-3 times (39%, 27 Votes)
  • 4-6 times (10%, 7 Votes)
  • 7-10 times (3%, 2 Votes)
  • 11-20 times (3%, 2 Votes)
  • 20+ times (1%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 70

Something of the Thread: Something is afoot…

April 17th, 2011 by | 6 comments

HaydenWCE has spotted something interesting over at the official Monkey Island Facebook page. Craig Derrick is hinting that something may be about to happen, saying “Great things come to those that wait.” What could it be? While you’re pondering that question and waiting for great things to come, you can participate in this sea shanty game, or read the game script angeldeb82 created for Tales chapter 4 (or just do both). If you’re really creative, you can participate in the improvement meme. Dig up an old piece of Monkey Island fan art and draw it again, only better! This post’s header shows an example of such an improved drawing, by guimero64.

Weekly Wiki: Tales of Monkey Island

April 12th, 2011 by | 4 comments

If you haven’t yet played Tales of Monkey Island and are stubbornly refusing to do so, read this article on the Monkey Island Wiki. Before you’ve reached the end, you’ll be crying like a baby, emptying your wallet and running to the Telltale store in order to buy it. Or, if not, you could try to get it for free. One possibility in that respect is to participate in this contest on Facebook. All you have to do is come up with a funny pirate grog recipe (Grog XD, anyone?) and live in Europe. The latter may be a bit hard for some of you to achieve, but what’s a plane ticket and emigration when you could win a copy of the Tales of Monkey Island Collector’s Edition?
