Review: Back to the Future: Double Visions

May 4th, 2011 by | 5 comments

I think a good reviewer should be well informed and should have no emotional attachment (positive or negative) to the product or the people he is reviewing. I don’t know if I am a good reviewer but I do know that it hurts to say this: Episode 4 was not worth the wait.

I know what it means to work your butt off on a project, I know what it means to work with several leaders, each with his own decisions to make which undoubtedly will conflict with yours, I know what it means to take on multiple projects at the same time… fortunately I also know when to stop and focus on just one. To have a basis for this review, these words will not be repeated twice: the Telltale Games Team is a group of brilliant people which are admired and respected by many fans around the world. That being said, I have just played the worst episode yet.

Feel free to jump into the discussion and prove me wrong. I always admire a good debate! Here are my arguments/points… with a tint of spoilers. (nothing major, you’re safe) 🙂

Review: Back to the Future: Citizen Brown

March 31st, 2011 by | 5 comments

(No Spoilers! Feel free to read, it’s safe)

After “BTTF – Episode 3: Citizen Brown” ends, one may feel the need to close his eyes, look up and say: Yes! Finally! They’re back on track!

At least that’s what I did…

We have reached the middle of the season and I was genuinely getting worried that I bought a series meant for children. One is able to understand Telltale Games’ approach in this case: big old franchise, let’s not mess it up for new players. Still, this didn’t explain the “Pause/Play Movies” from the previous episodes. Yes, that’s what I am calling them now… “Pause/Play Movies”. The game Pauses at one point, and you need to click on a button to get it going again, like an old VCR-player that keeps jamming.

Thankfully, Episode 3 is not like that…at least, not as much.

Tales of Monkey Island Ep.2-5 on iPad by May

February 20th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

During a recent press event, Telltale Games confirmed plans to wrap up its Tales of Monkey Island series on the iPad. The first episode launched on Apple’s tablet in December, and the series will recommence with Episode 2’s release next month. Telltale’s SVP of marketing Steve Allison was hopeful that all five episodes would be available for iPad players by May, though, he confessed, “It all depends on the Apple process.”

If all goes according to plan, Tales of Monkey Island will be the first episodic Telltale series to be offered in full on an iOS device. “And it won’t be the last,” Allison assured.

Confirmed: No ToMI 2

February 18th, 2011 by | 6 comments

The last three games TellTale announced are:

King’s Quest: Not a port of the original, this will be an entire reboot of the franchise. Expect more details at E3 in June.

Puzzle Agent 2: Last summer Puzzle Agent, a bizarre take on the Professor Layton formula, was released on PC and iOS platforms (it’ll make its way to the PlayStation Network this spring). The sequel, Puzzle Agent 2, is coming this summer to all the same platforms. It again stars Agent Tethers and takes place in the snowy Midwest.

More Hector: Badge of Carnage: The first episode of Hector, a mature, gritty point-and-click adventure, was released independently by developer Straandlooper on the iPhone last summer (IGN gave it an 8.5). Telltale is partnering with Straandlooper to first bring Episode 1 to iPad, PC, and Mac this spring. Two more Episodes will be released later this year.

I’m really sorry for this. But hey, maybe the puzzles will be better than those in BTTF, who knows?

Tales of Monkey Island 2 – Not so soon

February 18th, 2011 by | 3 comments

Relax, this is still just speculation… but (and there’s a big BUT here), based on recent announcements, the second season of Tales of Monkey Island may not be just around the corner.

TellTale just announced that they will be working on two new game series. The TellTale staff will make a brand new season based on the comic-book series Fables, and they just signed an exclusive worldwide agreement to develop and publish videogames based on the AMC cable network’s zombie hit “The Walking Dead.”

Moreover, the new Jurassic Park trailer states that, after Back to the Future, the immediate focus will shift towards dinosaurs in April 2011.

So you tell us… when would they have time for a new Monkey Island? TellTale still has three more announcements to make regarding the other 3 secret projects they are working on. What do you think? Will we see Guybrush again or not?

ToMI hits 86 on Metacritic!

February 10th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

Tales of Monkey Island, TellTale Games’ best selling series up to date, has been given a score of 86 points out of 100 on Metacritic! What does that mean? It means that our beloved game makers scored first place in the “Mid-Size Publishers” category, with an average score of 78.4!

“With our 14 scored releases last year including the full season of Tales of Monkey Island on the PlayStation 3 which earned an 86 Metascore, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Episode 2: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak for PC and Mac which earned an 83 Metascore, and Back to the Future – Episode 1: It’s About Time for PC and Mac which earned a 75 Metascore, we really nailed it in each of the seasons we released last year”TellTale Games Blog.

Does the world need any more proof that ToMI Season 2 is a MUST? In 6 days, TellTale will announce five more series (yes, it is not a spelling error) that will be in production. Let’s hope that ToMI2 is on that list and that they will make it sooner than 2012. I mean, let’s play it safe, who would want to risk launching the next Monkey Island game during the Apocalypse or…whatever we call it nowadays?

“Metascores are great and all, but what really matters to us is that the fans of the characters, worlds, and stories we put together, love what we have to offer. We will continue to work hard to delight you folks with the stuff you keep coming back to Telltale for!”TellTale Games Blog.

Something of the Thread: Ron Gilbert speaks

February 6th, 2011 by | No comments

Because we’re terribly lazy, we’d rather have HaydenWCE tell you all about the latest news on the forums than to post it here ourselves. The news in question being that Ron Gilbert has given an interview to the folks of Adventure-Treff. HaydenWCE (who else?) also asks about your favourite Telltale games. And in other forum news, Hande is making a new cartoon, and blanket has a new haircut. There, now you know all you need to know!
