Weekly Wiki: Ozzie’s House

July 27th, 2011 by | 1 lonely comment

One of the highlights of Lucre Island architecture is the mansion inhabited by Ozzie Mandrill. From the outside, it just looks like any other Caribbean mansion, but once inside, the Australian influences become apparent. Ozzie has filled his home with artifacts from his home country, and he’s particularly proud of his collection of stuffed animals, which has exotic animals such as the platypus, the wombat, and the dingo. Be careful not to spray any of the animals with Eau de LeChuck though – Ozzie doesn’t like that.

Weekly Wiki: The Lost Welshman

July 5th, 2011 by | No comments

From eating a sandwich to cracking Myst and Star Wars related jokes, the Lost Welshman displays time and again he is quite a character. More than just peddling unsuspecting commuters between Blood and Skull Island, he’s part of the landscape, perhaps a reason for tourists to visit Blood Island in the first place. Unfortunately for them, the Lost Welshman no longer works there, but if you’re lucky, you may just be served a dish cooked up by him at The Bloody Lip, although nobody really knows if he actually works there or not.

Weekly Wiki: Tales of Monkey Island

April 12th, 2011 by | 4 comments

If you haven’t yet played Tales of Monkey Island and are stubbornly refusing to do so, read this article on the Monkey Island Wiki. Before you’ve reached the end, you’ll be crying like a baby, emptying your wallet and running to the Telltale store in order to buy it. Or, if not, you could try to get it for free. One possibility in that respect is to participate in this contest on Facebook. All you have to do is come up with a funny pirate grog recipe (Grog XD, anyone?) and live in Europe. The latter may be a bit hard for some of you to achieve, but what’s a plane ticket and emigration when you could win a copy of the Tales of Monkey Island Collector’s Edition?

Are you feeling a bit wobbly on your legs, even if you haven’t touched the grog? It could be a problem with your legs. But have no fear, for one visit to the House o’ Sticks on Lucre Island will set that right! Freddie, the peaceful proprietor, will listen to your needs, suggesting a cane that’s just right for you. For some reason only known to Freddie, that always happens to be the Veeblefester9000 RainForest Deluxe.

Weekly Wiki: Hook Island

March 15th, 2011 by | No comments

Hook Island is a small island of the northeast coast of Mêlée Island, and is the home of Meathook.

In The Secret of Monkey Island the island is only attached to Mêlée by a cable, which Guybrush can use as a zipwire using a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. Meathook lives alone on the island tending a smaller version of the monster that removed both his hands (a parrot).

After Meathook escapes from Monkey Island, he returns home and eventually has a bridge built connecting Hook and Mêlée Islands (to Guybrush’s disappointment). In Escape from Monkey Island, however, he will initially not let anyone in for fear of losing his property to Ozzie Mandrill. He has turned his home into Meathook’s House of Wax after discovering that he can paint with melted wax on his hooks, and has sold several works across the island.

In Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge it is possible to win a ticket for a trip to Hook Island in the alleys on Phatt Island, but it is a useless item.

Weekly Wiki: Micro-Groggery

February 8th, 2011 by | No comments

If you ever find yourself on Jambalaya Island and you’re completely thirsty, don’t just run to the nearest StarBuccaneers or Planet Threepwood. Consider a visit to the Micro-Groggery instead! It’s a quaint little place, where they serve lots of different grogs, among which Snoot Groggy Grog, Stale Ale, the delicious Siren’s Urine, and for the kids, Grog Jr. If you don’t feel like drinking grog (you call yourself a pirate?!), you can always try how long you can last on the Menacing Mechanical Manatee. Just don’t forget to bring your Jambalaya Bucks.
